How Aid & Attendance Can Make Senior Living More Affordable
At Kingston Residence of Hickory, we honor veterans and their spouses by helping them access the benefits they’ve earned. Through the Aid & Attendance program, we help secure financial support for senior care, including assisted living and memory care.
Aid & Attendance is a tax-free benefit for wartime veterans and their surviving spouses to help with care costs. Eligible individuals can apply through the VA and present proof of eligibility to use the benefit toward their care.

Who Qualifies for This Program?
To qualify for Aid & Attendance, you must:
- Have served at least 90 days of active duty, with one day during time of war.
- Be at least 65+ or live with a disability.
- Have a discharge status other than “dishonorable.”
To qualify, surviving spouses must have lived with the veteran at the time of their passing and remain unmarried when applying. Eligibility also considers liquid assets, such as 401(k)s, stocks, and savings.

Applying for Aid & Attendance is FREE through a VA office. Avoid online applications that charge fees or claim to be official government sites.
You should never be asked to pay a fee or hire a lawyer or financial advisor when applying for this program. Some online applications can appear legitimate government websites, but are not. Please contact us or inquire at your nearest VA office if you have any questions.
Gather Essential Documents

- Discharge papers (DD214 form)
- Medical records or statements demonstrating the need for assistance
- Proof of financial income and assets
- Marriage certificate or death certificate (if applicable for surviving spouses)
